Air Conditioning Installation and Replacement
Grey Shaw Air Conditioning will always give you the best solution for your air conditionings needs.
Air conditioning units on average last 10 to 15 years, although if they were properly maintained they may last up to 20 years.
Replacing your system depends on when you begin to notice that your cooling system is working less efficiently than before or when the temperature is not properly adjusting.
When not properly maintained, however, they can sometimes stop working unexpectedly, especially if one of the electronic components breaks.
- You are not getting cold air. This may be obvious, but it is better to be suspicious and get it checked by Grey Shaw Air Conditioning. If it is an old unit we will give you two options either to fix or replace. Generally, repairing is the cheaper option, however, our team of experts will advise you on the best solution.
- The air flow has reduced. If you notice that the air coming out of the vents is not as strong as it used to be, you are probably right. Depending on the age of the unit, and the parts available for your model, our team will recommend the right option. Usually it is either replacing the fan, fan speeds not working, controller, motor, zone motors, modules, ductwork or other components not working the way it should.
- There is moisture or leakage around the unit. Air conditioners should not leak (especially inside the house). If you find puddles around your unit you may have a big problem at hand and a new system may be the wise decision to make. Leaking air conditioners can also damage walls and furniture and rust as well as mould could end up costing you, the homeowner, a fortune in repairs. A lot of units which are older experience a lot more issues due to damaged drip trays.
- The noises coming from the unit don’t sound right. If you hear noises that you have not heard before, this often says that there is an issue. Turn the unit off immediately. If you have an old unit and it is a broken motor bearing or motor itself, it could be a very costly repair and replacement would probably be the best option.
- Your air conditioner needs repairs often. If you find that you are making repairs on your units around the house more often than once every 12 months, it is probably time for a replacement. Sure, all air conditioners should have some preventative maintenance however they should run well for long periods with minimal repairs required.
- If your air conditioner is out of warranty. Repairs on air conditioners can be expensive at the best of times, but if your air conditioner is out of warranty and something major does go wrong, it may cost more to repair than buying new ones.
Often, the cost savings in the electricity bill is enough motivation to change.
Newer models focus on energy efficiency and may save you money in the long run.
